Seven masters, one roof
Steel Fabrication & Welding
We carry out all steel and non-ferrous fabrications, from small detailed work to large structural sectionalised weldments, draglines, stacker reclaimers, silos, surge bins, rotary breakers, crushers and screens, and structural steel. A complete range of modern welding operations is tailored to suit new and existing components for wear reclamation and hard surfacing.
- Fabrication building
- 90 × 30 × 16 m high bay
- Dragline bucket arch pits
- 4 dedicated pits
- Welding processes
- Submerged arc, TIG, MIG and ABClad hard-surfacing
Slew Bearings
We manufacture, refurbish and repair large-diameter slew bearings for all popular makes of hydraulic excavators, cranes and industrial equipment. Have your existing OEM slew bearings condition-assessed by us for their potential to be fully rebuilt and warranted, for as little as 30% of their replacement cost.
- Makes serviced
- Komatsu, Liebherr, O&K, Caterpillar, Hitachi
- Cost of rebuild
- From 30% of replacement
- Alliance
- Exclusive Worldwide Slew Bearing Alliance with BMTWBM
Induction Hardening
ABC Heavy Engineering has the most modern and comprehensive commercial induction hardening facility in Queensland. We harden slew bearings, rope drums and sheaves, shafts, pins and bushes, load rollers and drive sprockets to deliver wear-resistant surfaces with a tough core.
- Induction units
- 200 kW to 400 kW
- Frequency range
- 3 to 10 kHz
- Surface hardness
- Up to 60 HRC
Machining
Our machine shop is built around CNC plant sized for the heaviest mining components, a floor borer with 13 m of travel and a 6 m column that takes workpieces to 150 tonnes. From boring and turning to internal and external gear cutting, we machine slew bearings, rope drums and sheaves, gear cases, shafts and structural assemblies in one pass through the building.
- CNC floor borer
- 13 m travel, 6 m column, to 150 t
- CNC floor borer, turning
- 5 m column height, 60 t table capacity
- CNC vertical borer
- 5 m diameter, 18 t table
Fitting
Our fitters overhaul gear cases and main machinery assemblies to OEM specification. Every component is cleaned, stripped, assessed, measured and recorded before we decide on repair, replacement or refurbishment, so nothing goes back together on assumption.
- Jacking presses
- Up to 600 tonnes
- Overhaul process
- Clean, strip, assess, measure, record, then repair
- In-house support
- Fabrication, welding, machining and painting
Industrial Painting
Abrasive blasting and protective coatings on an industrial scale, to industrial and marine specifications, new work and re-coats alike. High-pressure cleaning, airless and conventional spray, and maintenance painting are all carried out by trade-accredited painters.
- Surface preparation
- Abrasive blasting and high-pressure cleaning
- Application
- Airless and conventional spray
- Specifications
- Industrial and marine
Engineering
Our engineering department uses SolidWorks 3D modelling and FEA structural analysis to design new products and to reverse-engineer parts that are no longer supported by the OEM. Conceptual and workshop drawings are produced for the trades next door, so a design becomes a finished component without leaving the building.
- 3D modelling
- SolidWorks
- Structural analysis
- Finite element analysis (FEA)
- Drafting standard
